Structural mechanics research group at the Faculty of Built Environment and in Civil Engineering Unit the is led by Prof. Reijo Kouhia. The research themes cover broadly many areas of applied mechanics, especially materials and fatigue modelling, and the development of numerical methods to solve problems in those fields.

Structural mechanics research group is now looking for a Doctoral Researcher to work in the “Towards sustainable and carbon free concrete construction” (ConSus) -project funded by the Research Council of Finland. The aim of the project is to develop meso- and macroscale material models for the mechanical behaviour of concretes where low-carbon cement will be used as a binder. The project is part of a consortium with Oulu University and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland.


Requirements

We require:

  • Applicable master’s degree
  • High motivation and interest towards structural mechanics
  • Ability and motivation to complete post graduate studies and doctoral degree
  • Good communicational skills and ability to collaborate with members of the research group and other stakeholders
  • Good command of English language
  • Successful candidate must be pursuing or will be accepted to study towards a doctoral degree in the Doctoral Programme in Built Environment. Please visit the admissions webpage for more information on eligibility requirements.

  • Programming skills and experience in use of simulation tools, like the finite element method
  • Expertise on materials modelling


We offer

We offer multidisciplinary and active working environment in the research group of Structural Mechanics.

The position will be filled for a fixed-term period until 31.8.2026. The preferred starting date is 1.10.2023 but it is negotiable. The position is located at the Tampere University Hervanta Campus.

The salary will be based on both the job requirements and the employee’s personal performance in accordance with the salary system of Finnish universities. According to the criteria applied to teaching and research staff, the position of a Doctoral Researcher is placed on level 2—4 of the job requirements scale. A typical starting starting salary for Doctoral Researcher is approximately 2,500 EUR/month. The salary increases based on experience.

Rakenteiden mekaniikan tutkimusryhmä kuuluu Rakennetun ympäristön tiedekuntaan ja on osa rakennustekniikan yksikköä. Tutkimusryhmän aiheet kattavat laajasti sovelletun mekaniikan eri osa-alueita, erityisesti materiaalimallinnusta ja väsymisanalyysiä sekä niihin liittyvien numeeristen menetelmien kehittämistä.


Tehtävänkuvaus

Rakenteiden mekaniikan tutkimusryhmä hakee nyt väitöskirjatutkijaa Suomen Akatemian-rahoittamaan tutkimusprojektiin ”Kohti kestävää ja hiilineutraalia betonirakentamista” (ConSus) kehittämään betonin mekaanista käyttäytymistä kuvaavia meso- ja makroskaalan materiaalimalleja vähähiilisestä sementistä tehdylle betonille. Tutkimus on osa konsortiota, johon kuuluu myös Oulun yliopisto ja VTT.
